It has been another bumpy month in my professional life, so I haven’t been as productive as I would have liked on the writing front. However, I did get one story submitted to an anthology ahead of the deadline, and I’m hoping to get another one completed this weekend. Sadly, I also got two rejections relating to anthology submissions from earlier in the year, which has left me feeling a little dejected.
In brighter news, this month saw my sixth story featured on the Voice of Dog podcast, and my second for their regular Ghost of Dog series. ‘Amor Ranarum’ is a twisted take on Der Froschkönig, a classic Grimm fairytale. You can find out more about it here, including links of where you can listen to it.
I travelled to Neumünster mid-month to visit Fusselschwarm for their monthly Fussel-Samstag event. This was far more chill than when I usually meet them – in the Dealers’ Den at Eurofurence – and it was great having a longer chat with their team. I picked up three books (including the one recommended below), saw some cute fursuiters, and came away with increased confidence about my own writing. I am hoping to go back sometime and suit there, but in the meantime, you can read about my adventures here.
My renewed confidence has subsided over the last week though, to the point where I’m not sure how much I’ll write over the winter. The months of November through March tend to be my most productive as I don’t like the cold or the dark, but I am lacking passion for everything right now. I’m hoping it can be rekindled at some point, not least because I do want to attempt writing a novel, but I’m not sure whether I can dig myself out of this. I constantly worry I’m not a good enough writer and this has been quite persistent recently. I guess I’ll just have to roll with it and see if it can be overcome, but this is the longest spell of this I’ve had for a while.
