It has now been two years since I became a freelance writer and editor, and things have started to get tough.
When I wrote this post a year ago, I stated that I wanted to ditch some of my marketing clients as soon as possible. Well, back in April, my two main clients ended up ditching me – both in the same week.
Since then, my main focus has been on furry projects. I am still editing for Fenris Publishing, having just finished my eighth project for them, while I have also taken on some private clients who are looking to self-publish furry-related literature. I have also started writing and editing for an adult furry RPG, which is different to what I am used to, but has been great fun.
Alas, due to the lack of corporate clients, I am struggling to make ends meet. Therefore, if you are looking for editorial, writing, or proofreading services then please drop me a message. Meanwhile, if the place you work is looking for someone with my expertise, it would be great to hear about it too. I have a large portfolio across a number of sectors, and I can also do Project Management and Business Development too. I can start pretty much immediately and can work flexibly.
The constant need to sell oneself is exhausting, but I guess that’s much of social media these days. It still doesn’t come naturally to me though. Still, this is a core part of freelancing I suppose.
While things have been tough for the reasons described, I am also much happier professionally. I really enjoy editing furry-related works as opposed to the usual marketing content, and I’d like to make this my career going forward. This will likely come with sacrifices, but in the short-term, I think these will be worth making.
The rise of AI is making things particularly difficult though, with the general uncertainty around the job market beginning to bite. This means tough decisions need to be made, which is why it is now likely I’ll be relocating back to the UK in the new year. By doing this, I hope I can significantly reduce expenditure, while boosting my chances of growing my freelance business. In the meantime, I am hoping the AI bubble will burst (with as little collateral damage as possible) and work will pick up. If you can help in any way, it would be very much appreciated.
