May 2026 Update – ConFuzzled and Cóyotls

Categories:

It has been a rather busy month, although not an awful lot of writing has been done.

I returned to the UK on May 8, so wanted to get all of my writing projects tied up by then. I succeeded with this, submitting stories to a couple of conbooks as well as the first draft for the forthcoming Furry Historical Fiction Society anthology. I have done a little post-editing on the FHFS story since, but am hoping to get this rounded off once I get back to Germany next week.

The main event this month has been ConFuzzled, where I presented the Writing Historical Fiction panel. This was a real delight, with an engaged audience that asked some particularly interesting and challenging questions. We also had a fascinating and wide-ranging debate. I attended about half the panels at the con overall and the impression I got was how passionate and interested our fellow writers are. It was a fantastic event and I’m looking forward to presenting more panels in the future. I wrote a full review of ConFuzzled on Wednesday.

The winners of the 2025 Cóyotl Awards were announced on the Sunday while I was at ConFuzzled, so I had to slink away and watch the live stream over on Discord. Initially, I was a little disappointed that ‘Back to the Molly House’ did not win the Best Short Story gong, but the competition was exceptionally tough and it was an honour just to be nominated. None of the anthologies in which I had a story featured won Best Anthology either. The quality of writing in the furry fandom is incredibly high and upon reflection, I am delighted to be considered in the same company. May I offer my congratulations to all the winners, many of whom I consider dear and close friends.

I have been doing quite a lot of editing this month, both for Fenris Publishing and other furry clients. My two main clients – both of which are not furry – have recently terminated my contracts so I have been looking around for more editing work, even creating a new Editing page for this website. I have a few interesting projects lined up in June so I should be able to earn some money, but I still have room in my schedule for anyone looking for a professional editor, proofreader or copywriter.

With the sun coming out, I have had the opportunity to do a lot more reading, and I am hoping this continues. I always feel so inspired by furry literature and I’ve deliberately tried to read a diverse collection of stories over the last few weeks.
