I’m excited to announce that ‘Back to the Molly House’ has been nominated for the 2025 Cóyotl Awards in the Best Short Story category. This is the first time I’ve ever been nominated for an award so I feel like a puppy doing zoomies.
It’s up against some incredibly stiff competition from some truly inspiring authors, so it’s a thrill just to be included in the same list. Indeed, it’s already a dream come true, but winning would be even sweeter.
The anthology in which it features, ‘The Wideness of the World’, is in the running for Best Anthology, as is ‘Wild Hearts’ which contains my story ‘Would?’.
Voting is open to all Furry Writers’ Guild members and associate members until 10 May. The full list of categories and nominations can be found on the Cóyotl Awards website.
A vote for ‘Back to the Molly House’ would be highly appreciated, but please take a look and vote for your favourites. Last year was a very strong year in furry publishing, as the nominations can attest.
In ‘Back to the Molly House’, we pick up with Hooke and Rufford, who feature in the very first furry story I had published, ‘1725’.
This story is set in the first half of 1726, when the Molly Houses are no longer safe and gay men are being persecuted across London. When a desperate Rufford is caught in flagrante with another man on The Sodomites’ Walk, his relationship with Hooke is tested against the hostility of the times.
Last month, I wrote a little about why I write about the 18th century and the parallels with the LGBTQ+ scene today. I am hoping to return to the world of Hooke and Rufford in future stories.
‘The Wideness of the World’ is the latest edition from the Furry Historical Fiction Society and is set in the Early Modern period. It is definitely worth picking up if you have not yet had chance to read it.
Congratulations to all of the other nominees – it’s going to be so hard to work out where to place my own votes. At least there is a month to decide.
