It’s been another slow month, largely because life has got in the way. I’ve also been back in the UK for the last 11 days seeing family and friends, so finding time for writing has been tough. I’m hoping this will pick up in October though, when the weather starts to turn cold and the nights get depressingly long.
Earlier in the month, ‘Keelhauled’ was published in the Furvana Conbook. Set in the mid-18th century, the story details the reminiscences of a dying sailor over his former lover. I really enjoyed writing this one and I am delighted it was included in the conbook. You can read a little more background to the story here.
One thrill around this was my friend Al Song, who was Guest of Honor at Furvana and had a story in the conbook himself, asked me to sign his copy. This was the first time I’ve ever been asked to sign a piece of fiction I’d written and it was a real honour. He’s just moved to Berlin, so I also got to show him around my city, which was great fun too.
This month, I also started editing for Fenris Publishing. It’s early days, but I’m enjoying it so far, particularly as I get to read some things I may not usually read. I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops and getting more involved as the nights draw in.
With SoFurry still down, I’ve been focusing on a few other writing projects. I submitted to two anthologies this month, while I rounded off another massive piece of work that’s been four years in the making.
I haven’t done as much reading as I would have liked, but I have done some, as detailed below. I’m hoping to pick this up too, now that the weather is becoming more dreary.
