SoFurry – The End of an Era

Categories:

Today, Monday 7 July, is the day when the old version of SoFurry will be taken offline, with the switch over to the current beta version happening at a later date. You can find more information about the SoFurry site migration here.

I’ll probably wait until the new version of SoFurry comes back online before posting anything new, but feel free to follow me there until it’s taken down. I believe any current watchers will be automatically transferred over though. During its down time, I’ll still be updating this blog and I may throw a few stories up on my FurAffinity too. I should probably use that more.

I have many fond memories of using the old version of SoFurry, particularly after I started writing more regularly in 2023. It has really helped me establish myself as a writer over the last two years and I am grateful to every single one of my 78 watchers there. Every comment, fave, and vote has also been very much appreciated. In times of self-doubt, they have provided some much-needed encouragement.

It’s fair to say that I probably wouldn’t have developed so much as a writer had it not been for SoFurry. The site has allowed me to practice writing and get valuable feedback, enabling me to improve over the last couple of years in particular. It has also enabled me to look back and chart my development. It’s the only place, aside from my own hard drive, that allows me to do this as most of what I’ve written is posted there. There’s a lot of value in that, even if some of my earlier stories are somewhat embarrassing to read now.

I first joined the site in 2010 and many of my very first furry stories are still there. Despite my subsequent decade-long hiatus, I still picked up the occasional reader. Even back then, SoFurry was the site to showcase furry writing and 15 years later, it remains the best outlet by far when it comes to showcasing furry authors.

I am hoping the new version of SoFurry will be just as good for the furry writing community. We’ll see how it goes, but I’m looking forward to seeing how the new site develops.
