I am delighted to announce my story ‘Would?’ features in the Wild Hearts anthology, which is released today.
Published by Armoured Fox Press and edited by Anastasia Spinet, Wild Hearts is an F/F furry anthology containing stories centered around women being in love with other women.
You can buy Wild Hearts on Amazon or at the Fur-Eh! convention in Edmonton, Alberta, later this month. It runs from 17-20 July.
My story, ‘Would?’, is set in the autumn of 1992, when the grunge scene is at its height. George Bush is still in the White House and in Oregon, the atmosphere is febrile ahead of a ballot on an anti-LGBTQ+ measure called Prop 9.
The universities have become key campaigning grounds but Greystoke only has interest in her former girlfriend Aspatria Caldbeck, now the lead singer and guitarist of Baby Grrrl. Little does she know that the two estranged lovers will have to combine forces to try and defeat this legislation.
The inspiration for this story was Nirvana playing a No on 9 benefit gig in Portland on 10 September 1992. It’s quite a famous gig as it sees Kurt Cobain kissing Krist Novoselic on stage mid-act. You can find the whole show on YouTube.
Being a huge fan of the grunge scene and the 1990s in general, I really enjoyed writing this and feel it’s one of my strongest stories so far. Delving into the history was also fascinating – I’m just hoping I haven’t made any mistakes!
My friend Scribbes Chee also features in this anthology with their bittersweet tale ‘The Spirit of Christmas’. You can read an excerpt of this over on their Scribbles of a Chee website, but I’d recommend you get the book to read the whole story. It’s quite a roller-coaster ride.
I am thrilled ‘Would?’ has been included in Wild Hearts and I know the other stories in this collection will be fantastic too. Please support furry writers and pick up a copy here.
