I have been away a lot in April, so the main focus has been editing the five short stories I’m currently working on. I did submit a story to my first non-furry anthology in the middle of the month, while I am aiming to finish a couple of these five stories before I travel back to the UK on 10 May.
There have been two main developments this month. The first has been Pascal Farful’s Go Fourth writing initiative. I have joined every call bar one and have found it a very good way of meeting more furry writers. It has also helped me stay motivated regarding my writing projects, so the format has worked really well. Pascal Farful’s presentation on dialogue was also informative. I will definitely look to participate again next year, even if I did derail one of the conversations by my revelation that there is a Denny’s in Swansea. I also talked about my proposed furry convention in Fargo, North Dakota, for a lot longer than was necessary.
The other thing that’s happened was the launch of our new writing group. Our first meeting was last Friday and I found this very helpful. I have been feeling a little concerned about the amount of beta reading I have been requesting of late, so I am hoping that this will make me feel more comfortable. The reciprocal nature of us discussing each others’ work has been a very useful format and one I think I can learn a lot from. It has also boosted my confidence to hear writers I admire saying they like my stories. I submitted two of my five short stories for review and I am hoping to finish these in the next two weeks.
I published the third Stanah and Max story, Camden Capers, on my SoFurry earlier in the month and while it didn’t get as many views as the previous two, I did get a few new watchers from it. I also got more than the usual amount of interaction, so I am pleased.
The voting has now closed for the Ursa Major and the Cóyotl Awards, so I expect the winners will be announced soon. It will be fantastic if Work “Fur” Hire wins one of them, but just to be nominated has been a great thrill.
There have still been no developments on this website, but I’m hoping to get the updated version launched soon.
Aside from that, we’re now entering the warmer months, which will probably see me focus more on reading than writing. I read Huskyteer’s wonderful “Learners” novella while sat in the sun over Easter weekend and I’ll likely read more novels and anthologies outside when the weather is good. That’s not to say I’ll stop writing, but I will probably take my foot off the gas a little until the autumn.
