I have just come back from a nine-day stay in Georgia, where I attended Furry Weekend Atlanta. It was my first US con since 2017 and it was by far the biggest I have attended. The furry scene in the US is much grander and quite a bit different to elsewhere and it was good to sample it again.

I was quite surprised by how few writing panels there were, while the Dealers’ Den was quite bereft of books being sold. However, I did get to attend the official ceremony for The Cóyotl Awards and while I was disappointed ‘Happy Howlidays’ didn’t win, I was delighted for my friend Televassi claiming his first ever award. This was my first year in contention and my first year voting, so I was just glad to have made the final running. Hopefully I can do better next year.

After the event, I got to speak to one of my favourite furry authors, NightEyes DaySpring, and he was very encouraging about my own writing projects. I also bought a couple of his books as he was selling at the Dealers’ Den on one of the days.

I believe that Anthrocon is the big furry writing event, so I am going to try and get there in 2025. It may not be possible, but I think it would help my own writing if I attend panels and meet writers out there.
